FAQS

Need to Know

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PILATES?

At the heart of Josef Pilates' method is the idea of functional movement. Not only does Pilates develop your fitness, muscle tone and strength, joint mobility, flexibility and mind/body connection but it helps to align your body to make everyday movement easier, easing tension, stress and the aches and pains we incur from modern life.

DO I NEED PILATES EXPERIENCE TO TAKE THE PRENATAL CLASS?

Absolutely not. The Prenatal classes are especially designed from the start of your second trimester to help you adjust to your new and growing body and to help you prepare both physically and mentally for birth and becoming a mother.

WHEN CAN I START THE POSTNATAL PILATES CLASSES?

Postnatal classes are suitable from 6 weeks post birth with a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks with a c-section. You need to have had your check up and clearance to return to exercise before attending. Each mother will also have a discussion with the instructor to identify any particular issues that need to be considered before starting a Pilates course. Pre-walking babies are very welcome to attend class.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

Just a mat. All other small equipment for in-person classes is provided.

DO YOU DO PRIVATE CLASSES?

Yes. 1:1 or 1:2 classes allow for your programme to be completely tailored to you. You will receive a full postural assessment and evaluation of your individual goals. This is particularly beneficial in the pre and postnatal period when you are adjusting to a new body and may feel more vulnerable and less inclined to attend a group session. Private classes are most often home visit allowing you to be in your own space where you are comfortable and you can have your baby with you without worrying about other members of the class.
